Mahindra World City, Chennai Celebrates 11th Anniversary

August 29, 2013, Chennai: The second edition of the Mahindra World City (MWC) Marathon in aid of Nanhi Kali was held at Mahindra World City, Chennai. The primary objective of Nanhi Kali NGO, is to provide quality education to girls from economically disadvantaged families. The event was held in partnership with Depuy Synthes Institute, a Johnson & Johnson Group company which has set up its medical education and research campus within Mahindra World City dedicated to skill enhancement of healthcare professionals in the area of orthopaedics and neuroscience.

Over 750 people, including companies, residents and students within Mahindra World City and , residents of Chennai participated in this event which took place on Thursday, August 29, 2013. The run was flagged off from the Depuy Synthes Institute, 8th Avenue, Mahindra World City.

The proceeds from the marathon will be contributed to the Nanhi Kali NGO which is jointly managed by the Naandi Foundation and the KC Mahindra Education Trust. The project provides academic, material and social support that allows a girl child to access quality education, attend school with dignity and reduces the chances of her dropping out.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Sangeeta Prasad, CEO, Integrated Cities and Industrial Clusters Business Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. said, "The Mahindra Group is committed to the cause of Nanhi Kali and , Mahindra World City is privileged to be contributing to its cause through this community outreach. Project Nanhi Kali was initiated in 1996 by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) with the aim of providing primary education to underprivileged girl children in India. Since 2005, Project Nanhi Kali has been jointly managed by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust and the Naandi Foundation. Project Nanhi Kali is working with 21 NGO implementation partners at the grassroots level to ensure that the Nanhi Kalis receive academic, material support and social support. The K.C. Mahindra Education Trust regularly monitors the NGOs by giving technical inputs wherever required to ensure that quality education is being imparted to all the Nanhi Kalis.
