Firms to get dedicated power feeders
CHENNAI Against the backdrop of opposition parties levelling charges that the industrial climate in the state remains precarious, the government is evolving new strategies to push growth and ensure ease of doing business.
Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami strong>will sign MoUs with industries on Monday for setting up dedicated power feeders to ensure uninterrupted power to industries. The first MoU will be signed between Tangedco and Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Limited "As per the plan, Tangedco will establish a substation free of cost on the land provided by the industry . Thereafter, a dual network would be set up for power supply . While the cost of the first feeder will be borne by Tangedco, the cost of the second feeder will be borne by the industrial consumer. All industries that sign MoUs with Tangedco will get dedicated feeders with 24 hour supply ," said a senior official. Automatic meter reading facility will be provided at the feeder level.
Any industry that has a demand of more than 15 MVA is eligible for the scheme.Based on the requirement, Tangedco will set up substations and associated transmission and distribution networks in locations where the industries exist or are pro posed to be set up. The units will also be permitted to install substations, transmission and distribution networks on their own, if they want to speed up the project. They will, however, have to comply with the technical specifications of Tangedco. This is the first time that industries are being allowed to create such infrastructure.
The usual procedure is that industrial consumers apply online for HT connection, which would be assessed by the officials concerned for load requirement. If the load falls below 15 MVA, transformers are installed and power is drawn from a nearby substation. In case of large industries, a substation will be put up or nearby substation will be connected to the industrial unit. This results in power outage at times. When more than one unit draws power from the same substa tion, it leads to loss of production. "The proposed scheme will help large units get exclusive feeders and avail supply without power outage," the official said.
Tangedco is ready for the rollout. It will establish a 110KV sub-station at Eliyambedu at Gummidipoondi on the land provided by Mahindra, which is developing an industrial park at Gummidipoondi with an expected power demand of 36MVA. A dedicated feeder will be provided by Tangedco free of cost to the industrial park. Tangedco will also set up a facilitation cell under the control of Tangedco director (distribution) to redress the grievances of industrial consumers on a fortnight basis. The capacity addition of Tangedco over the years has helped the discom lift the restrictions and controls imposed on industries in June 2015.
