The power system in India today has several regional grids that make up the Integrated National Grid with innumerable distribution lines covering the whole country. The power sector has been continuously expanding to support the fast growth rate in India. India ranks 6th in the world when it comes to electricity generation. The capacity has increased from 123,287.17 MW in 2005–06 to 1141,499.84 MW by February 2008.
Besides all this, the rapid growth in the telecommunications sector has played an important role in supporting all the other sectors, sustaining the high growth rate in India.
